Katey Red Every week, we bring you a must-hear track from the Le Guess Who? 2018 line-up. This week, it's a high-energy celebration of New Orleans bounce from one of the first openly gay artists within the masculine bounce hip hop-scene. Katey Red is a transgender rapper who has become known for her rapid, machine gun-like beats and her explicit, gender fluid lyricism. Despite the numerous bounce artists in town, Red together with her best friend Big Freedia are known for diversifying the scene through their identities as transgender females. 'Where Da Melph At' is the first video Katey Red released, showcasing the omnipresence of bounce music in New Orleans: "Katey Red is a bona fide New Orleans icon, but astonishingly, never made a music video until 2011 and this one – a street-level hit that is also the normally melodic MC’s first embrace of the speedy beat that characterizes manic 21st-century bounce." - NOLA Katey Red's performance at Le Guess Who? 2018 is curated by Devendra Banhart. Also performing at the festival are a.o. RP Boo, Kelman Duran, Serpentwithfeet, DJ Haram, GAIKA, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Rizan Said, and many more.
